Return To The Wild: Autumn Foraging & Medicine Making

  • Mangaroa Farms Whitemans Valley Road Upper Hutt, Wellington, 5371 New Zealand (map)

Return to the Wild is an exploration of bioregional herbalism; seasonal foraging and medicine making as a community experience to re-weave ourselves into a symbiotic rhythm with nature’s cycles. Bioregional herbalism emphasises using plants that are native to or naturally grow in the area where a person lives. This practice is rooted in the idea that the land provides what its inhabitants need to thrive, fostering a deeper connection between people, their local environment, and their health.

To celebrate the shifting seasons and welcome Autumn, join Tamsin of Wildfolk Apothecary for a seasonal foraging & medicine making experience at Mangaroa Farms.

Autumn is a powerful time to take notice of the seasonal shifts happening all around us. The leaves once sprouted new, now fall to the ground, turning into nourishment for the Earth to recycle over the colder, darker months. Though the trees are becoming bare, wild & resilient medicinal weeds are still abundant all around us! We will embark on a journey of discovering these untamed medicines of the Earth.

The day will begin with a wild-foraged tea ceremony in the Mangaroa Farms Yurt, highlighting the intentions of the workshop, outlining ethical harvesting practices, and discussing the cultural & environmental importance of bioregional herbalism.

Then we embark on a plant identification & foraging walk around the regenerating lands of Mangaroa farms, to learn about the seasonal plants growing all around us that we can use for food and medicine. Discover the plant’s therapeutic qualities, culinary & medicinal uses, and the unique folklore & stories attributed to them.

We will then gather to co-create a twist on the traditional “Fire Cider” immunity tonic to take home, utilising some plantd that we gather along the walk.

The workshop includes a seasonal lunch made from Mangaroa Farms produce infused with medicinal wild weeds.

Tickets can be purchased here. See you there!
